Obituary of Maryann H. von Dwingelo

Maryann Henry von Dwingelo, age 91, a 47-year resident of New Canaan, CT passed away at home on June 4, 2023.

She was born on January 3, 1932, in Mount Vernon, NY, the daughter of Harrison and Evelyn Henry formerly of Darien, CT and Boynton Beach, FL.  Maryann graduated from Darien High School, Colby Sawyer College, and Katherine Gibbs School.

She worked at Reader’s Digest in Paris, France and in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Connecticut.   Her interest in the Real Estate world began when she became Assistant to George Haynes who was prominent in the New Canaan real estate market for many years. She then moved on to the TomBrock Corporation in Stamford. That led her to her position as the Association Executive at the Darien Board of Realtors/MLS where she stayed for 21 years until her retirement at the age of 79.  During that time she traveled to the National Association of Realtors & Connecticut Association Realtors conventions & conferences learning, growing, and enriching her knowledge of all aspects of the industry.  Upon her death, she was serving as the Co-President of the HOA board for the Village of New Canaan Condominium Association.  She was passionate about Real Estate and her work.  In her quiet time, she was a devoted UConn & Duke women’s basketball fan. One knew better than to interrupt her during her “game times” or the most anticipated “March Madness”. She could recite all players, scores, standings and rarely missed a basket.  She was a tried-and-true follower of many sports, but her basketball was always her number one. In her retirement she was an active member of Life Time Learners where she enjoyed the many opportunities she had to continue to learn and grow. Additionally, she was a member of Staying Put, who continued to be of service to her until her final days.

Maryann’s true love in life was her family.  She was surrounded by love from near and far.  Never was there a time she did not interact with them at some time in her daily routine.  She made time for each one of them.  Always available to them for private talks, words of wisdom, supportive efforts or just a smile and reassurance that it would all work out.  Her home was her haven, and she was able to see those that she loved daily through her private collection of their drawn pictures, handwritten notes, framed pictures, pillows, toys, contents of various care packages sent regularly along with plants and flowers. Up until her final days with us, family and friends visited her continually - her door was always open.  She cherished her time with those in her life.

She will be so dearly missed by all her family as her contributions to their lives were memorable.  Maryann, Mom, and Mema will always be in their hearts.

She is survived by her sons Mark (Gretchen) von Dwingelo of Nantahala, NC, Chris (Michelle) von Dwingelo of Snellville, GA; her daughters Gail von Dwingelo (Rich Regan) of Redding, CT, and Wendy Lynch (Craig) of New Canaan, CT. Also, her eleven grandchildren Courtney Graf of Andrews, NC, and Harrison von Dwingelo of Boston, MA, Cassidy Regan of Dublin, Ireland, Brenna Regan of Redding, CT, and Connor Regan of Baton Rouge, LA, Kelley Waite (Mike) of Knoxville, TN, Tim Lynch (Shelley) of Nampa, ID, and Troy Lynch of Boston, MA, Christian von Dwingelo of Snellville, GA, Faith von Dwingelo of Salt Lake City, UT and Matthew von Dwingelo of Snellville, GA. In addition, three great grandsons Jackson and Charlie Waite and Mason Lynch.
