Obituary of Florence M. Sadowski

Florence Marie Zukoski Sadowski, 95, of Ridgefield, CT passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on January 8, 2021.

Florence was born in Luzerne, PA, to Benjamin and Mary Zukoski.  She attended the Lehman schools in Lehman, PA, and then began working at the Liberty Silk Mill in Nanticoke, PA. Upon meeting Walter A. Sadowski at his brother’s wedding in Honeypot,PA, she married him and moved to New York to begin her life as a domestic engineer.

Florence was a generous person and had boundless energy. She loved to cook and bake.  She was most famous for hand making the polish delicacy, pierogies. At times she would make hundreds of them for all the priests and nuns at St. Casimir Parish in Yonkers, NY.  She also loved to socialize and could brighten up anyone’s day with her show of interest in everyone she met.  Up until her death, she lived on her own and kept busy socializing with family and friends.  She loved her family fiercely and celebrated every family occasion with them. She will be missed tremendously.

In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her beloved husband Walter in 2001, her brother Joseph Zukoski, and sister Millie Hirner.

Florence is survived by her loving children, Walter Sadowski (Barbara) of Las Vegas, NV, Diane Bell (Thomas) New Canaan, CT. Sister Patricia Paraschak of Hunlock Creek, PA. Four grandchildren, Walter Scott and Robert Sadowski, Melissa Bell Andrews, Lauren Bell Howard, Ten great-grandchildren: Chase, Jackson, Brooke, Bryce, Devin, Alexis, Henry, Sloanie, Ellie, and Andon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 12, 2021 at 11:00 am, at St. Aloysius Church New Canaan, CT. A walk through visitation will be held on January, 12, 2021 from 9:00-10:30 am at the Hoyt Funeral Home 199 Main Street, New Canaan, CT. Visitors are asked to wear masks as they walk through, pay their respects and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through the building.  Burial will follow the mass at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
