I worked with Dr. Coughlin for many years at The Stamford Hospital. A fine surgeon/physician, a fine gentleman who was also so respectful to everyone. I am sorry for your loss.

So very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. I have been traveling the past 2 weeks and only heard when I returned last night. Though my visits were for physical therapy we enjoyed many wonderful conversations. Your dad was indeed a gentleman and a scholar. My deepest sympathy. I will miss my 'Mondays with Frank'.

Dr. Coughlin was a very caring and devoted man who became our loyal friend that went may extra miles to help our daughter with a congenital heart defect. He gave helpful advice and information, helped us find the best surgeons in the world, attended doctor appointments with her medical files in hand, and even observed (endured)Audrey's very lengthy, difficult, stressful surgeries in 2004 and 2009, one of which was in Paris, France. He cared deeply for Audrey, even when we were complete strangers. He has truly inspired our entire family and left footprints on our hearts. As the wall hanging we gave him stated, we will never be the same. We will never forget him, his cheerful voice, or giving nature. We are going to miss him, and his periodic phone calls. He has a very special place in our hearts, as does Barbara, who attended many appointments as well. May we all look for opportunities to help others as Frank did and make the world a better place. The world needs more like Dr. Francis R. Coughlin.
Audrey is now a healthy and happy 15 year old, who thanks to Dr. Coughlin's help, had a very normal childhood.
May fond memories be a comfort to you at this difficult time. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love ,Shawn, Keri, Brendan, Andrea and Audrey May (Frank's favorite patient)

My heartfelt sympathy to the Coughlin family for your loss. Dr. Coughlin played an incredible role in my mother, Clare Melfi's healthcare from the time I was 7 years old. His patient, warmth, and medical genius was of great significance to my mother and family throughout her battle with breast cancer and metastatic disease. After he performed thoracic surgery on my mom going through extensive multiple surgeries, he healed her (radiation burns post mastectomy) through an innovative dressing of a pigskin that he had flown in from Texas after conventional treatments failed. I spent a lot of time with my mother in Dr. Coughlin's office in the Medical Arts building and he always took the time to greet me as a child and comfort me about my mother's progress. While my mother's oncologist had given her up to 2 years to live with her diagnosis, I was blessed to have my mother raise m for14 years beyond that; I "grew up" and became a nurse. God bless you in Heaven, Dr. Coughlin. The Angels jut received another.

How do you summarize the thoughts we have for the most special man we have ever known? He was my dearest friend for 40 years. We spoke just about every day for the past 5 years. Every conversation ended with a mutual "I love you"
We shared so much together: Sailing, concerts, books, dinners, weddings, anniversaries and countless
hilarious, loving times.
This remarkable man was always there for every member of our family. Always.
How do you summarize the past 40 years? The sadness we feel for your wonderful family Frank is profound.
We will feel the absence of you in our lives forever. You have been my brother. And, we thank you for your love and friendship. We will miss you dear Frank.
Put in a good word for me up there.
In the words of Flavia Weedn:
"Some people come into our lives and leave a footprint on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same"
Love,
Jim and Alberta
